Dollaway “May try Peruvian Neck Tie On Munoz” Tells Story of Bader himself and Velasquez In Mexico

Fight Hub TV caught up with Arizona based C.B. Dolloway as he prepares for his upcoming UFC On Versus Match with fellow middleweight Mark Munoz on March 3rd. Dollaway shares how his training camp has been coming along, how he would like to win for the other Arizona fighters that Munoz has beaten, maybe pulling off a Peruvian neck tie on Munoz and a really random fight experience in Mexico.

FHTV: So how’s your training for Mark Munoz coming along?

C.B: Its been going great! I had been helping Ryan Bader get ready for his Jon Jones fight, so It has been great having another guy in camp training for a fight as well. We also have Aaron Simpson training for his fight for Mario Miranda. So the three of us going at the same time makes for a great training camp. I have had no injuries and I am defiantly looking forward to the fight.

FHTV: How was the switch from Arizona Combat Sports to Lions Den then getting kicked out when they found out you were going to open up your own gym?

C.B: Scott Peters, the owner of Lions Den said we could come train at Lions Den while Bader was training for Antônio Rogério Nogueira and I was training for Joe Doerksen and threw us out mid camp when he found out we were actually opening up our own gym, which was kind of a bullshit move, but we are all good now. We now have our own gym with a full UFC sized Cage and a full size boxing ring; 5000 feet in mat space. Everything we need is right there so we are good.

FHTV: Did that affect any of your preparation for your fight versus Joe Doerksen?

C.B: Somewhat, we had to go to different place to train. We didn’t have a good cage to spar in. We had to spar in a really small cage and if you ask anyone that makes a big difference because when you go to lean back on the cage for support. But yeah it’s nice having an actual UFC sized cage, so you can get use to your surroundings.

FHTV: I think the cage size will be a big difference for the WEC guys having their first UFC fights.

C.B: Yeah the first time in the big cage, there is a lot of room out there and it does play a big part in the way you fight. We will see how theses guys do with the size of the cage.

FHTV: How do you feel about fighting Mark Munoz? Mark is coming off a victory over your teammate Aaron Simpson.

C.B: Yeah I know Mark he is a really good guy it’s going to be good opportunity to get one back for the Arizona guys. I am going to go after him. I know Mark is a really tough competitor and this could be a huge win for me. I know Mark is a really good friend of mine and of our camp but it is something that has to be done. Business is business we can be friends later.

FHTV: How does your diet change as the fight approaches?

C.B: It changes a little bit. Actually the next few weeks is when I will really focus on it. I have done well so far. I am about 203 pounds and I started about 212. I like to stay around 200 pounds; I don’t like to get any lighter then that. If I get any lighter then that I don’t fell to good.

FHTV: What about fight week what is your diet like? What is your weight going into the week of the fight?

C.B: Monday I will show up around 200 pounds. I will eat pretty much salad and protein drinks. Drink a lot of water, no soda or flavored drinks. Sticking to water helps because it sweats out pretty easy. Salad and cutting my food intake down; still eat but not as much.

FHTV: How do you feel about ring rust? I’ve heard some fighters talk about it while some say it doesn’t exist.

C.B: I definitely believe in ring rust when you are not competing; I like to go at least every 6 months; A year off is kind of weird, It’s not so much the ring rust as oppose to not training to be in a fight training. Everyone trains but training for a fight is different, and if you haven’t done that for a year that is along lay off, your body isn’t going to be the same and it will be harder to get your body in peak condition and it will play a factor.

FHTV: Can you talk about the Peruvian Necktie? Not many people have pulled it off.

C.B: Yeah I think I am the only one who has pulled it off so far. I’ve seen a few people go for it. People are starting to know what it is. I am defiantly looking forward to pulling it off in the future trying to get another submission of the night.

FHTV: Maybe on Mark?

C.B: Yeah maybe on Mark, he winds up in that position a lot. So I am definitely not afraid

FHTV: Can you talk about SE. Vale Tudo in Mexico?

C.B: Yeah it was pretty crazy! We went down there and fought in a bull fighting arena with no roof on it, dirt floors and warming up in horse stalls. Me and Bader were lucky enough to get fights, Cain’s guy backed out after he saw Cain. Some guy tried to trick his son who was a Mexican luchador into fighting Cain by telling him it was a Mexican wrestling match. The guy saw Cain and said no way! It was crazy fighting down there and just being in the heart of México, no one spoke any English. It was crazy, the ring we fought in was as hard as a cement floor with no give to it. I was defiantly glad to be a wrestler that day. I felt really bad for the guy Bader fought. Bader picked him up and trapped one of his arms and slammed him right on his head and knocked him out!

FHTV: You fought Bill Smallwood?

C.B: Yeah Bill Smallwood, a guy out of L.A. I ended up catching him in a rare naked choke pretty early. It was kind of weird, I had fought two weekends before and was really relaxed, we touched gloves and right away he caught me with a left hook. I was just standing there and didn’t know what to think. I got caught early on but luckily I settled in and got the takedown and won the fight!

FHTV: Would you recommend fighting in Mexico to other fighters?

C.B: Yeah it was fun experience. It was cool going out after Bader and I fought. We went out with Cain who speaks fluent Spanish so it was cool. There was some kind of big party going on in the town, so we went to some bar where you pay the cover and they give you a cup so you can drink the whole night, they actually ran out of alcohol, there was so many people in there it was insane.

FHTV: What was it like when all you guys were at ASU wrestling?

C.B: It was awesome! All that has kind of translated over to the fighting world; A bunch of friends and teammates having fun doing something we love. Now we are grown adults doing the same thing, just kind of living the dream.

FHTV: Would you like to thank any of your sponsors?

C.B: I would like to thank Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals they are one of our monthly sponsors and The Titled Kilt another monthly sponsor of ours who just came on board they are doing big things for us. Mike Miller of The Miami Heat, he is helping us get our gym and up running; He’s a big supporter there. Everyone can check out our website at www.powermmafitness.com
