While Abel Sanchez is known for training middleweight monster Gennady Golovkin, he may have another one lying in wait. Mike Perez is also a pupil of Sanchez and though not as well known as his other more famous stable mate, he brings the same relentlessness inside the ring. The 20-0 Cuban southpaw is looking keep piling up the wins and get a crack at a heavyweight title in the near future. Sanchez feels he will be ready in a few more fights, Perez though says if he ever gets the call to face a Klitschko or whoever is heavyweight champ, he will be ready.
Perez’s next fight will be on January 18th and he will dedicate a portion of his purse and the fight to Magomed Abdusalamov. As you recall, Abdusalmov was Perez’s last opponent. The two put on quiet a heavyweight scrap at the Theatre in MSG as Perez was awarded a decision win. After the bout though, Abdusalmov was admitted to a hospital due to a blood clot and was put into a medically induced coma. His condition has improved but he is still in the hospital recovering. We all wish Magomed well and a speedy recovery and shows the type of character Perez has. Catch the full interview below!
